I had a dream I had to make up all of my university exams, including my performance exams with band and a solar saxophone performance. I didn’t notice that the premier was going to be in attendance, and that the crowd was going to be hundreds and hundreds of people. It was making me sick, waiting for my turn. I was jealous and ill prepared. I have a version of this dream a lot, when I’m performing with little notice end of preparation. Thank goodness I woke up.
Dreams like this one are quite common and often reflect feelings of anxiety, stress, and self-doubt. Here is a detailed breakdown of the elements in your dream:
University Exams and Performances: These often symbolize pressure and expectations, either self-imposed or from external sources. The requirement to "make up" exams suggests feelings of being behind or a fear of not measuring up to standards you or others have set.
Performance Anxiety: Dreams involving unprepared performances, especially ones with high visibility such as a band or solo performance, often relate to fears of judgment or the fear of failing publicly. This is a common type of anxiety dream, reflecting concern about how others perceive you.
Presence of the Premier and Large Crowd: The presence of an important figure (the premier) and a large audience amplifies the perceived scrutiny and pressure. It can signify a heightened fear of failure and a strong focus on external validation or perception. It might also indicate feeling "judged" in your waking life, either professionally or personally.
Ill Feeling and Jealousy: These emotions suggest an underlying insecurity or comparison with peers, which could be affecting your confidence. The illness you feel in the dream represents stress, and jealousy might suggest you feel others are more prepared or successful than you are.
Frequent Recurrence of the Dream: Recurring dreams often mean there's an unresolved issue or persistent stressor in your life. This can indicate ongoing feelings of insecurity, or that you're facing situations where you feel you're not adequately prepared.
This dream is an expression of your internal anxieties and stress, likely manifesting from a real-life situation where you feel unprepared or pressured to perform well. It could relate to your self-esteem and confidence levels in public situations, particularly where you're under scrutiny. The pressure to succeed and perform can be overwhelming, especially if you feel not ready for the task.
The recurrence of this dream may suggest that there’s a pattern in your life where you find yourself facing such pressures unpredictably. It could be beneficial to explore which areas of your life evoke these feelings, be it work, studies, or personal expectations.
Preparation and Confidence Building: Focus on better preparation for tasks in your life that evoke anxiety. Building competence in these areas can alleviate stress.
Stress Management Techniques: Consider stress-relief practices such as meditation, exercise, or deep-breathing exercises to manage anxiety.
Self-Reflection: Think about what triggers these feelings of being unprepared or inadequate. Prolonged self-reflection might reveal deeper concerns or self-expectations driving these dreams.
Seek Support: If these dreams are causing distress, it may be helpful to talk with a counselor or therapist. They can provide tools to help manage anxiety and its manifestations in your dreams.
Understanding and addressing the roots of these anxieties in your waking life can lead to more peaceful dreams.
